KIBC Students Explore Sustainable Farming at Healthy N Fresh Hydroponic Farm

April 26, 2025 | Auckland, New Zealand

As part of its commitment to experiential and sustainability-focused learning, Kingston International Business College (KIBC) recently organized a student visit to Healthy N Fresh, a hydroponic vegetable farm located near Auckland. The excursion offered students a hands-on introduction to New Zealand’s modern agricultural practices, with a focus on environmental stewardship, innovation, and healthy living.

Learning About Hydroponic Agriculture

Upon arrival, students were guided through the farm’s hydroponic systems—where vegetables are grown without soil, using nutrient-rich water in a controlled environment. The farm staff introduced students to the advantages of hydroponics, including water efficiency, pesticide reduction, and year-round production.
The highlight of the day was a hotpot lunch prepared on-site, using the vegetables students had freshly picked. Shared outdoors in a relaxed setting, the meal offered not just nourishment, but a cultural and sensory connection to food origins. For many students, especially those from Asia, the hotpot lunch brought back memories of home—with an added sense of satisfaction from knowing they had harvested the ingredients themselves.

Beyond the Classroom: Sustainability in Action

This visit reflected KIBC’s holistic approach to business education—linking classroom theory with real-world practices in health, environment, and food systems. The experience encouraged students to think critically about global supply chains, local farming models, and how innovation can solve pressing sustainability issues.
The farm visit also fostered intercultural communication, teamwork, and a sense of community among students from diverse backgrounds—core values that KIBC promotes throughout its programs.
As part of a wider calendar of industry and field-based learning, the Healthy N Fresh visit demonstrated how knowledge, experience, and sustainability can work hand-in-hand to support student development—in business and beyond.
